Ventspils to Celebrate Parventa Festival for Sixth Consecutive Year

On May 11, Ventspils will be holding a Parventa Festival. It is the sixth consecutive year that the city has organized the event, with the new open-air stage at the Children's Park "Fantasy" being its principal venue.

Festive activities will take place from 12.00 o'clock to 4.00 pm at the Children's Park "Fantasy" (open-air stage, green areas), as well as at the Parventa Library and football pitch of Parventa Sports Centre.
The Parventa Festival will commence with a parade, the participants of which include students and teachers of Ventspils Secondary School No. 3 and Secondary School No. 5, the staff of Parventa Library, pupils of Ventspils preschool educational institutions accompanied by their parents, and employees of municipal institutions. The participants and spectators will be delighted by the Brass Orchestra "Ventspils" and a brass orchestra from Talsi.

The festive concert "Parventa Celebrates Again" at the Children's Park "Fantasy" will feature live musical performances by Ventspils groups and guest artists. Children from Parventa preschool educational institutions will greet their mothers with beautiful songs. Students of Ventspils Secondary School No. 3 and Secondary School No. 5 will surprise everyone with their talents. Expect some guests, too, including the Riga Song Theatre "Etyud" (leader Yuri Tihomirov), singer Samanta Tina and jazz vocalist Olga Pirags with accompanying band.

The concert will be hosted by a professional host and children's favourite fairytale characters (Wolf, Hare, Puss in Boots, Pink Dragon).

The festival attendees will also be offered to enjoy "Mini Zoo" from Liepaja and attend an exhibition "Little Flower Carpet" arranged by pupils and teachers of Ventspils preschool educational institutions in the green area at the Children's Park "Fantasy". Also, everybody is welcome to participate in sports attractions run by the Latvian Bungee Jumping Club.

Sports enthusiasts will be given the opportunity to spectate the Children's Football Tournament organized by the Youth Club "Ceriba" at the football pitch of Parventa Sports Centre.

The Parventa Library is set to host a week-long event "Plein Air Parventa", which will culminate on Sunday during the Parventa Festival when an exhibition showing works of art created by the "Plein Air Parventa" participants will be opened at the library's amphitheatre. During this plein air event, the young artists from Ventspils Art School, Ventspils Secondary School No. 5 and Secondary School No. 3 are going to do landscapes of Parventa.

The Parventa Festival will conclude with Rihards Plesnakovs Piano Concert at the Parventa Library. Having graduated from the Gulbene Music School and Sergey Osokin's Piano Class of the Latvian Academy of Music, he now studies at the Moscow State Conservatory named for P. I. Tchaikovsky. During the previous academic year, he attended piano lessons taught by the Norwegian pianist and professor Einar Steen-Nokleberg in Hannover. Plesnakovs has won prizes at international competitions in France, Romania and the Czech Republic. Thanks to becoming the winner of an international young musician competition in Milan in 2009, he was provided the chance to give solo concerts in Paris, Porto, Milan, Rome, Naples, San-Giuliano, Vilnius and Leiden. The pianist has attended masterclasses run by Mikhail Voskresensky (Russia), Milena Mollova (Bulgaria), Ivari Ilja (Estonia), Ronan O'Hora (UK), etc.

The event is funded by the local government and the Freeport of Ventspils Authority.
