The summer of 2019 marks a time of significant and inspiring change in the lives of Ventspils city and Ventspils residents, as the new concert hall “Latvija” has opened its doors. Consequently, the City Festival, which will be celebrated from August 2 to 4 this year, will be closely related to this event.

By inviting Ventspils residents, as well as guests from Latvia and foreign countries, the festival organizers promise a diverse programme to suit different tastes and a number of musical surprises. Estonian music group "Ewert and The Two Dragons", as well as popular Latvian music groups - vocal group "Latvian Voices", "Dagamba", "The Sound Poets" and others will visit Ventspils during the festival. However, the names included in the concert hall "Latvija" programme - Steve Reich, Valgeir Sigurdsson and Lubomyr Melnyk - do not require any comments among music gourmets.

No less exciting, creative and athletic activities throughout the day will take place at the Big Square, the Craftsmen's Square, the Castle of the Livonian Order, the House of Crafts, the Adventure Park, the Youth House and elsewhere in the city.

In the beginning of the festival, on August 1, every music and art enthusiast will be able to experience a very special and unprecedented musical event at the concert hall "Latvija". For the first time in Latvia, the legendary American composer Steve Reich's composition "Six Pianos" will be played on six grand pianos at the same time.

As the festival is opened, on August 2, Ventspils residents will be presented with another gift - the bronze fountain "Umbrella" made by sculptor Gleb Panteleev located at the Newspaper Alley. The traditional Ventspils Grand Prize and Awards Ceremony will take place at the Town Square in the evening, during which vocal group "Latvian Voices" will perform, but at the end of the evening, the Icelandic composer and electronic music artist Valgeir Sigurdsson will visit the concert hall "Latvija" with an impressive audiovisual performance.

On August 3, in the morning, the townspeople and guests are invited to watch the attractive festival parade with a large number of participants. The Promenade of Ostas Street offers to view the colourful and original flower carpets, there will be a large crafts fair, performances by popular musicians and Ventspils collectives. The evening programme will be opened by Estonian music group "Ewert and The Two Dragons", but as the highlight - the enthusiastic guys from music group "Dagamba", as well as film "Ventspils 700+29" and, of course, the colourful fireworks characteristic of Ventspils. The traditional party in Reņķa Garden will also take place this year with participation of groups "The Sound Poets" and "Mazais princis".

At the end of the festival, on August 4, pianist and composer Lubomyr Melnyk will perform the first concert on the world's largest vertical piano "470i" made by David Klavins at the concert hall "Latvija".
