II International Master Course for Young Pianists Ventspils Piano 2019

07.08.2019 - 13:56
The idea to establish master course for young pianists in one of the regions of Latvia occured to one of the leaders and organizers of these courses, French pianist and teacher Antoine Bouvy. Riga was spoiled with such type of events, but they were rare in the regions.
II International Master Course for Young Pianists Ventspils Piano 2019
In the summer of 2012, when French association Concerto Grosso collaborated with Stanislavs Broks Daugavpils Music Secondary School, the history of these courses began - the first master course Daugavpils Piano for young pianists took place. For the first few years they only dealt with solo repertoire, but soon the participants got the opportunity to experience playing with the orchestra. Thanks to Daugavpils Chamber Orchestra and their leader Aivars Broks. Gaining such experience in master courses for young pianists is rare even on a European scale. Experiencing playing with an orchestra is one of the reasons why interest in these master classes is high. Daugavpils Music Secondary School and the city itself were the home for this event for six summers.

In 2018, the master courses relocated to Ventspils, finding home at Ventspils Music High School. And here as well, playing with an orchestra, this time Liepaja Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of Atvars Lakstīgala, is one of the characteristic features of the master course. Undoubtedly, the city itself also gives participants the opportunity to spend time comprehensively. And participants arrive from different countries of the world. These master classes are beloved by young pianists from China. They come to the courses in large numbers and have been an integral part of them from the very beginning. Many of them participate every summer and some have become fond of Latvia so much that they are currently studying piano at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

It is not without reason that young Chinese pianists have an interest in improving piano mastery in Latvia. One of the teachers of these master courses, teachers and inspirers of Chinese young pianists is Xu Ning - a former student of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He returned to China after graduating and founded his own music school, he transfers the skills, knowledge and European cultural traditions acquired in Latvia to his students, tells them about Latvia, promotes it as an excellent place for further musical education. Of course, the international circle is not limited to China. France, Italy, Estonia, Korea, of course, Latvia - are the countries that have expanded and developed the geography of the master course. The team of teachers is also international. For many years it has been constant and close - Antoine Bouvy (France), Xu Ning (China) and Juris Žvikovs (Latvia). In Ventspils this team was joined by a teacher of Ventspils Music High School - Endijs Renemanis. But there is another fact which is the reason behind this particular team of master course teachers - all the teachers of the master course were students of the long-time but prematurely deceased professor Teofils Biķis of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. The close friendship and collaboration is inspired by Teofils Biķis.

Although individual classes are an important part of the master course, one of the guidelines of these courses is to give participants the opportunity to perform multiple times and gain concert experience. Participants are given the opportunity to perform two or three times a week. The concert places are the most beautiful and notable concert venues in Ventspils. The master course also allows you to become a passive participant - listen to lessons throughout the week or on individual days.
