The Slavic Seasonal Event “Svjatki” will be celebrated in Ventspils

The Slavic Seasonal Event "Svjatki" will be celebrated with festive concerts in Ventspils from 8 to 18 January.
Svjatki festivities are celebrated for twelve days, which is from Orthodox Christmas, which is from January 7 to January 19. These festivities include both Christian and also ancient Slavic traditions.This year, as part of this Slavic festival, the residents and guests of Ventspils will be able to attend four musical events.
- Concert "Music for the Soul" of the Mixed Choir "Cantabile" | January 8 at 19.00 at the Parventa Library
The concert programme will feature sacred music pieces, arrangements of Russian national songs, romances, ballads, light music, songs of various nations - Romanian, Georgian, Armenian, Gypsy, Italian, Spanish - performed by the choir "Cantabille", soloists, trio, duo, as well as vocal groups, in both a cappella and accompanied by musical instruments.
- Celebration concert "Christmas Blessing" | on January 12 at 15.00 at the Parventa Library
In the programme - Orthodox spiritual chants from the ancient Byzantine chants Russian composers' choir masterpieces, Christmas poetry, instrumental pieces, folk songs, and circle dancing. The concert will be attended by the artists from Riga - Larisa Orlova, Karolina Ruicene, the folk group "Jurev Den", Ventspils Music School flute ensemble, as well as the special guest from Riga - the chamber ensemble "Campanella", which, over the years, has gained the reputation of a professional musical group. The ensemble consists of young and promising musicians with a variety of academic and Orthodox church music styles.
- Slavic spiritual music celebration "Christmas Bells" | January 17 at 18.00 at the Ventspils Culture Centre
This will already be the 19th Slavic spiritual music celebration "Christmas Bells". The theme of this year - angels rejoice. The programme will feature Christmas spiritual and contemporary songs by the choirs "Slavjane'', "Kaiva", and "Liba", as well as the children's vocal ensemble of the Ventspils 3rd Secondary School and the soloists Ginta Ruse un Vjaceslavs Zagorulko. The audience will also be delighted by the choreographic ensemble "Konfetti" and Jelena Smirnova's group with dances dedicated to the Christmastheme , while instrumental compositions will be performed by the bell ensemble "Saules zvani". Folk Christmas traditions will be reflected in the Belarussian song ensemble "Zuravinka" and the folk group "Zdravica". Visitors of the celebration will have the opportunity to view the exhibition of Angels, which is created from the personal collection of the participants of the event.
- Closing concert "Svjatocnie vecorki" | January 18 at 16.00 at the Ventspils Culture Centre
The programme of the closing concert includes the national songs and dances, circle dances, Svjatki koļadki, games and also joke scenes.The folk group "Zdravica", the Belarussian song ensemble "Zuravinka", the Ukrainian song ensemble "Mrija", the folk group "Jurjev Den", a group of Jelena Smirnova, and Tatjana Saksaganska will participate in the concert and entertain the viewers. The guest from Liepaja - the folk song ensemble "Volnica" (led by Tatjana Belikova) will also be performing in the concert. During the break, visitors will have an opportunity to participate in the Svjatki games and lottery, which is traditionally hosted by the Theatre Studio "Mes" of the Ventspils Creative House. The Small Hall of the Ventspils Culture Centre will host workshops led by the Ventspils National Culture Associations "Kobzar", "Spadcina", and the Ventspils Russian Association.
