Liepāja University (LiepU) was founded in 1954 on the basis of the Teachers' Institute. Its original name is Liepāja Pedagogical Institute. Since 1998 - Liepaja Pedagogical Academy. On July 2, 2008, the President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers promulgated the Law "On the Constitution of the University of Liepaja" and from July 16, Latvia became one more university richer.
