26.04.2021 - 09:06
For more than ten years, the opening ceremony of summer tourism and cycling season is held in Ventspils in mid-May. By tradition, a colourful bicycle racing along the city's streets takes place and numerous festive and cultural events are held.
The opening of the summer season is coming up with a Ventspils cycling event “Cycling unites 2021!”
Given the epidemiological circumstances in Latvia, this summer season in Ventspils will be saluted in an individual bicycle ride "Cycling unites 2021!". The participants will also have a chance to complete various tasks, find certain objects and win one of two bicycles in a lottery!

Bicycle rides with elements of orienteering will take place on 8 and 9 May from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the left bank of the Venta River (the city's side), as well as on 15 and 16 May from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the right bank of the Venta River (the Pārventa side). The distances will be possible to cover not only by bicycle, but also on foot, and Nordic walking is also welcome. The information on bicycle rides and participation options will be submitted shortly.

The event will be celebrated with attractive and musical performance to come as a surprise from amateur art groups of Ventspils Culture Centre who will ride bicycles and sing songs on their route. Members of the art groups will bring you bright impressions with their dancing shows and other attractive performances at several stops of public transport. A special performance "Let the Wheels Roll" will be shown by young members of the theatre sports-improvisation group "I-vēš" under the auspices of Ventspils Creativity House. Finally, freak bikes of the association "Radi vidi pats" ("Create the environment yourself") will be a surprise not only for bicycle riders.

For your own comfort and safety, Ventspils Tourist Information Centre recommends  you to use the official bikeways in the city when taking part in the cycling event. We also kindly ask you to follow the current epidemiological safety measures. More information on the cycling event is to come soon!
