Sea Festival in Ventspils 2021

On 10 July, we will celebrate the Sea Festival! Let's enjoy the opportunity to attend the festival fair with the smell of smoked fish, to watch ships in the Venta River and sunset on the seashore, to enjoy concerts and a real ball.

Already early in the morning, city streets will be open for the great shopping tour, becoming acquainted with products of local producers and craftsmen. Starting from 8.00, the Great Sea Festival Fair will take place at the Old Town Market Square. At 10.00, the Sea Festival Fair will start at Ostas Street Promenade from Jāņa Street up to Tirgus Street, and it will continue till 24.00 o'clock. A real festive fair will be organised also at the Great Square from 12.00 to 22.00 o'clock near the fountain "Frigate "Whale"".
At 11.00, we will honour the deceased sailors and fishermen at the monument "For Sailors and Fishermen Whose Resting Place Is at Sea".
One of the central locations of the festival will be the Reņķa Garden. The festival concert starting from 14.00 will be opened by the pop studio "Jūras akmentiņi", and from 15.00 the concert programme "Esi man tā" will please the audience with the most beloved songs composed by Imants Kalniņš, Aivars Hermanis, Valts Pūce and Jānis Lūsēns, performed by Marts Kristians Kalniņš, Līva Kalniņa and Kristiāna Stirāne. The song programme performed by actors Dita Lūriņa and Mārtiņš Egliens will include songs from Latvian theatre and film repertoire for singing along.*When attending the event, a valid certificate of Covid-19 vaccination or previous Covid-19 infection, or a valid certificate of negative Covid-19 test has to be presented. Children up to 12 years of age don't have to present the certificate or get tested. Only a few rules have to be observed - 2-metre distance and wearing a face mask. The festival programme at the Reņķa Garden will be also broadcasted on a big screen at the Great Square until 22.00.
At Ostas Street Promenade, near the fountain "Ship Watcher", we will continue the already well-known project "Fountain Stream", where starting from 12.00 and until 15.00, a filming activity with real seaside reggae will be participated by bands "Riga Reggae" and "Bezgalībieši", whereas the programme will be closed by Shota Adamashvili, the country musician from Georgia. There will be an opportunity not only to listen to musician programmes, but also to greet the tugboat fleet at the port at noon. In the evening programme, also near the fountain "Ship Watcher", starting from 21.00 and to 24.00, participation in the filming activity will be continued by the band "Citi zēni", hip-hop artist Idus Abra and DJ duo "Skrapneshi". As usual, "Fountain Stream" will be available for watching both onsite, and live on the Facebook page of Ventspils Culture Centre.
Following the latest information, various activities will be available to enjoy around the city. Traditionally, the "Sea Cup in Beach Volleyball 2021" will take place at Ventspils beach volleyball stadium.
For lovers of exhibitions and art, it will be worth to visit the Theatre House "Jūras vārti". From 9.00 to 20.00, the personal exhibition "ooze / -ums" by Laimdota Malle and Kristīne Krauze-Slucka will be open for visitors. *The exhibition can be attended individually (1 person or 1 household), observing a 2-metre distance and using a face mask. The exhibition is free of charge!
In its turn, at 19.00, "Jūras vārti" will host a mono performance "Fear Routine" by the choreographer and dancer Jana Jacuka, and the performance is offered to residents of Ventspils by Ģertrūdes Street Theatre. *When attending the performance, a valid certificate of Covid-19 vaccination or previous Covid-19 infection, or a valid certificate of negative Covid-19 test has to be presented. Children up to 12 years of age don't have to present the certificate or get tested. The ticket price is from 5.00 to 7.00 EUR.As every year, also Ventspils Museum has prepared various activities.
At the House of Crafts, from 12.00 to 14.00, joyful cooks from the circus "Beztemata" will make a soup following the old time methods, will regale visitors with the soup and will acquaint with secrets of culinary spices used in Europe in old times. Good atmosphere in the yard of the House of Crafts will be ensured by musicians of the band "Čirkainie". *The ticket price according to the pricelist of the House of Crafts.From 20.00 to 01.00, the Sea Festival Ball will take place at the Reņķa Garden, hosted by Dita Lūriņa and Mārtiņš Egliens. Real ball atmosphere will be created by the band "Galaktika" with an orchestra led by Andris Baltacis, and the band "Dziļi violets". **Covid-19 certificate has to be presented when attending the event. Tickets can be acquired at "Biļešu paradise" ticket offices or at www.bilesuparadize.lv, ticket price: 5.00 EUR.
At the sunset time, there will be an opportunity to enjoy music at sea at the Blue Flag Beach - starting from 20.00 and until 24.00, we will meditate with the sea to the mood music by DJ Egmonts.
At 22.00, a movie night will start in the yard of the Livonian Order Castle. The movie "Akmeņainais ceļš" ("Rocky Road") (1983, director: R. Kalniņš, restored in 2018) of Riga Film Studio will be demonstrated. The ticket price according to the museum pricelist.
The Sea Festival will start already on 9 July with introductory events - the Great Sea Festival Fair at the Old Town Market Square starting from 8.00 and an event of making paper ships and flags "Yesterday we were at the portside, there were too many ships... (H.Dorbe)'' at 13.00 at the Herberts Dorbe Memorial Museum "Senču putekļi". Also members of the Foundation "Support Centre for Families and Children with Special Needs" will participate in the event.
At the conclusion of the Sea Festival, on 11 July, festive activities for the smallest residents of Ventspils will take place at 11.00 at the Children's Town and at 15.00 at the children's park "Fantasy". From 12.00, an educational journey "One fish?" will be organised at Ventspils Seaside Open-air Museum, where everyone will have a chance to find out, what exactly is the road of fish from the fish farm to our refrigerator. Music for all tastes will be ensured by DJ Lācis and the music studio "Orff", their experience and knowledge will be shared by the ichthyologist Māris Olte, the scientific institute BIOR and SIA "Verģi".
