Musicians of the publishing house "Erased Tapes" visiting the concert hall “Latvija” in Ventspils

On Saturday, August 28, musicians of the well-known publishing house "Erased Tapes" such as the singer Hatis Noit, musician and songwriter Douglas Dare, as well as pianist Lubomyr Melnyk will be visiting the concert hall “Latvija”.
Although each of the musicians has already visited different Latvian concert venues, this will be one of the few evenings when the British publishing house "Erased Tapes" will be represented by three bright performances in one concert.
The first part of the concert will feature Japanese singer Hatis Noit. Born in the Hirido Islands on the Shiretoco Peninsula, the artist combines Western classical and Japanese folk music with natural sounds, gagaku or Japanese classical and opera music inspired by Bulgarian and Gregorian chants, as well as a reference to avant-garde and popular music. This is confirmed not only by Hatis Noit's concert performance, but also by the recordings made so far. For example, the album "Illogical Dance" has been described by Mary Anne Hobbs as "an unusual, sophisticated work" and has been included in the active rotation of BBC Radio. The visitors of the Ventspils concert will witness the program, a large part of which will consist of material from the long-awaited continuation - the new records coming out next year.
"The human voice is the oldest and most important, and at the same time also the most effective instrument we know. I use it to tell about the sounds of nature, about a language that has no logic. It creates a beautiful conversation that is not limited by words as in human communication. I want my music not to let me forget about it," said the musician herself and this is confirmed by her compositions. They are like several layers of improvised vocal parts without words, samples or fragments of pre-recorded sounds or musical phrases. The sounds reminiscent of leaf humming are created by the musician's voice ties.
Musician and songwriter Douglas Deer grew up in a small coastal town Bridport, south west England. His mother is a piano teacher and has always tried to get his son to learn the instrument. Deer started composing at a very early age, but only started writing songs in 2008 while studying at the University of Liverpool. His songs and vocals on the piano soon earned a comparison with Thom Yorke and James Blake. After a short time, Deer became interested in Erasmus Tapes, a London publishing house that specializes in publishing and promoting avant-garde and modern piano music. In 2013, a contract was signed with the publishing house, and Deer's debut album "Seven Hours" saw the light of day. This was followed by an extensive tour together with his partner in thought and publishing - Ólafur Arnalds. In 2014, in cooperation with producer and drummer Fabian Prynn a compilation of Deer's ten songs was released on his debut album "Whelm". The album "Milkteeth", released last year, is probably the most personal and uncovered work of the musician, giving a voice and shelter to anyone who has ever felt unusual and out of place.
Ukrainian pianist, the adaptor of "continuous music" Lubomir Melnik has visited Latvia several times. Shortly after the opening of the concert hall "Latvija" in the summer of 2019, he gave a concert on Dāvids Kļaviņš's instrument "470i". With amazing enthusiasm and perseverance, which at times borders with obsession, Lubomir Melnik has been representing and defending his piano language since 1968, the flow of which never seems to break down. Equal attention is paid to the sound of the instrument, as well as to the harmonies and melody. The virtuoso piano technique allows him to create overtones that mix with each other, collide and sometimes even create new melodies. Thus, the original composition has changed beyond recognition. Although a contemporary between the most famous minimalists, Melnik was considered one of the most underrated artists in the relatively recent past. Well, that has changed and his piano playing is heard more and more often in many different concert halls. During the artist's previous visits to Riga, Durbe Lutheran Church and Ventspils, the ranks of listeners have always been full.
