Ventspils Big Band will perform together with a Dutch jazz artist

On 8 October, at 19.00, at the Concert Hall “Latvija”, Ventspils Big Band will be joined on the stage by the well known Dutch trombonist, composer and arranger Ilja Reijngoud.
The concert programme will be composed of original compositions and original arrangements by Ilja Reijngoud. These compositions will be performed together with Ventspils Big Band by the artist himself, and also the young and talented vocalist Paula Saija.
Ilja Reijngoud was born in 1972, in Leiden, the Netherlands. He studied at Amsterdam Conservatorium, and later in USA, where he obtained the Master's degree. Currently, alongside his lecturer's job at Rotterdam and Amsterdam Conservatoriums, Reijngoud not only manages big bands of both conservatoriums, but is also a member of several popular Dutch jazz bands. As a guest artist, he has performed together with world-famous orchestras and musical associations. He has given countless masterclasses around the world. As a composer and arranger, he has received several prestigious music awards - Edison Jazz Award, Latin Grammy and other awards.

Paula Saija has acquired education in the genre of contemporary rhythmic music, as well as in the American pop music stylistics. The young artist participates in various projects both as a soloist, and also as a backvocal singer, collaborating with well-known Latvian musicians and musical associations - "Very Cool People", Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, Latvian Radio Big Band, Samanta Tīna, Ralfs Eilands and other artists -, Paula actively performs on Latvian, as well as Lithuanian stages. She has also participated in festivals "Ventspils Groove", "Augusti Blues", "Klaipeda Jazz Festival" and other festivals.
