As the Christmas draws near, as of the First Advent Sunday, the Christmas decorations are lighting up the city. The Ventspils Tourism Information Centre has prepared a guide of Christmas walking routes “Ventspils Under the Christmas Lights” and invites the locals and city guests to enjoy the festive mood, discovering the decorated Christmas trees during walks and taking ride by the “Christmas Train”.

The guide "Ventspils Under the Christmas Lights" will lead you through the city streets twinkling with Christmas lights, allowing you to discover decorated Christmas trees marked at 9 locations on the map.

As a tradition, on the square Lielais laukums, located at the very heart of the city, beside the Concert Hall "Latvija", the main Christmas tree brings joy to the locals every year. Both the trees and the entire square have been designed inspired by the music. This year, in addition to the Christmas tree with a height of 16 m, the orchestra of the twinkling musical instruments will be complemented by the "Christmas Piano" with a height of 3.8 m, which is an interactive light installation with practical use, allowing everyone interested trying their hand at the piano playing. To make the festive mood even more enjoyable, melodies of the most beautiful Christmas carols are flowing from the Christmas tree set up on the square Lielais laukums.
A little further, on the square Jaunpilsētas laukums, beside the fountain "Sun Boats", you will see installations of music instruments played by illuminated angel figures. As a final touch, the composition is complemented by a pair of twinkling reindeer and a sleigh.
In the city centre, you will be able to capture magical festive mood, walking down the illuminated alley Laikrakstu aleja and passing trees decorated with sparkling umbrellas. Nearby, on the square Dzirnavu laukums, a romantic atmosphere is created by large-sized candles arranged in a circle in the middle of the square.
Walking down the street Kuldīgas iela, a festive mood is created by a string of light bulbs in the trees. Near the Light Cow, on the other hand, where the historical hay market used to be, each week one candle will be lit in the Advent wreath as a Christmas countdown. The street Sofijas iela, which leads to the Town Hall Square, passing the Culture Centre, has become a magical place - look up and you will see a sparkling veil of snowflakes and garlands.
Another large Christmas tree adorned with twinkling lights and festive décor on the Town Hall Square, beside the Church of St. Nicholas, brings the joy of Christmas to all passers-by. The trees nearby are illuminated by Christmas lights, whereas the streetlamps are adorned with angels blowing trumpets, thus inviting everyone to visit Bethlehem to find the illuminated nativity scene.
There is another sparkling Christmas tree on the Old Town market square, beside the carillon clock tower, welcoming the visitors to the melodies produced by the clock tower. On Saturday, as of 27 November, and further every Saturday until Christmas, from 8:00 to 15:00, everyone is welcome to visit the Old Town market square to enjoy festive mood with hot beverages and delicious snacks and to buy everything necessary for the Christmas dinner.
The street Lielais prospekts, in the section between the street Lāčplēša iela and the square Lielais laukums, is beautifully decorated, with strings of light bulbs in the trees and all 12 Chinese zodiac signs, including the symbol of the upcoming year of 2022 - a figure of tiger beside the Flower Clock. Walking down the street Lielais prospekts, which leads to the Children's Town, the streets are illuminated by streetlamps adorned with angels blowing trumpets.
Adorned with bright Christmas spheres and twinkling lights, the Christmas tree of the Children's Town is located at the merriest and loudest place, i.e., next to the stage, where it welcomes the youngest residents of Ventspils.
You will also discover bright Christmas decorations in front of the Ventspils University College with its centerpiece in form of a large gift box of 4 m.
On the way to the city district of Pārventa, when crossing the bridge over the river of Venta, both sides of the bridge are, as a tradition, illuminated in the shape of wings, whereas in the middle of both bridge circles, a stylized light installation is surrounded by sparkling Christmas trees.
At the very heart of Pārventa, across the Pārventa Library and the fountain "Dune Pine", a beautifully decorated Christmas tree with a height of 10 m, made of 200 small fir-trees, brings the joy of Christmas to everyone. Illuminated in bright red, the lady bugs of Pārventa are greeting all passers-by. In the children's park "Fantāzija", where one usually can hear sounds of children songs, laughter, and children playing, there is an adorned naturally grown outdoor Blue spruce, accompanied by a twinkling snowman.
There are also beautifully adorned naturally grown outdoor fir-trees in the Adventure Park of Ventspils and in front of the City Council building. All city decorations are richly complemented by strings of light bulbs in a random pattern throughout the branches of trees, with a total length of nearly 38.5 km.
If you are really observant, you will notice that it has become a tradition for the locals to contribute to the Christmas mood. Walking around the city, you will see lots of festive decorations in front of houses, company buildings, and shops.
