The participants had the opportunity to participate both in person and online, thus complying with the restrictions established with regard to the health emergency. The seminars included on-site training tours through the old part of the city, Ostgals, the new part of the city, as well as a trip to the military heritage object. Guided by professionals in culture and tourism, the participants visited the Concert Hall "Latvija", the military heritage, and the recently built Science Centre "VIZIUM".

The programme allowed the tourist guides to get to know the city from different perspectives, such as the infrastructure of the city of Ventspils, plans for the development of tourism services, city architecture, and the history of urban planning. The tourist guides had the opportunity to learn more about the most important cultural monuments in Ventspils, including the story of the Ventspils International House of Writers and Translators, as well as the industrial part of Ventspils, more specifically the operation of the Freeport of Ventspils, and the protected nature areas. Also, they gained the assurance that Ventspils is a city, that seeks to address the needs of people with disabilities, and learned more about tourism opportunities in Ventspils Region. During the training, the participants were also able to take a closer look at the tourist guide profession itself - the basics of tourist guidance, motivation and challenges, types of tours, technologies facilitating tourist guidance, practical recommendations in developing tour routes, time planning, and organizing the book-keeping. Large part of the training was focused on learning more about the history of the city, including about the Castle of the Livonian Order over the years, the city of Ventspils under the sand in the 17^th century, the stories of Vasarnīcu-Street, the Hanseatic League, and the role of Ventspils in it. Churches and historical evidence of jews in Ventspils had also a particular role within the cycle of seminars.

The cycle of seminars was organized with the purpose to provide the tourist guides with comprehensive and accurate information on Ventspils as a popular tourist destination, the history and current development of the city, tourist attractions, and city highlights.

The cycle of seminars was led by experienced lecturers and invited guests, such as the Head of Ventspils State City Municipality Jānis Vītoliņš, the lecturer of Turība University and the tourist guide Armands Muižnieks, manager of the tour agency "Tobago" and experienced tourist guide Iveta Rīvāne, the director of the museum "Jews in Latvia" Iļja Ļenskis, the associated professor and leading researcher of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences Andris Klepers, the director of Ventspils Museum Solvita Ūdre, the deputy director and the leading researcher of the museum Armands Vijups, and other professionals in culture and tourism. 

"This seminar is sort of a source of knowledge and inspiration, which serves as a good basis for tourist guides to further work and develop exciting new routes in Ventspils. A good example are theatrical tours. This year, the seminar focused on new topics that had not been addressed before, such as technology facilitating the tourist guidance. It is such a great pleasure to see so many new tourist guides with good language skills who show potential and creativity," explains one of the lecturers of the seminar and the tourist guide in Ventspils Iveta Rīvāne.

I am so pleased to see that there are still very special individuals in Ventspils who are always eager to learn and are able to dexterously put their knowledge into practice and share it when welcoming the city guests. My special thanks go to all lecturers who responded to the invitation by the TTC to share their knowledge and to participate in the lectures. I believe that this cycle of seminars provided valuable experience to all tourist guides! A pleasant surprise was also the different age groups represented in the seminar, which only means that one does not have to wait for retirement age to become a tourist guide in Ventspils. The tourist guide profession can be often combined with other daily jobs. Tourist guides put their hearts into their work!"
