· Saturday, 5 February at 8.00-15.00 "Day of Speck in the Ventspils Old Town Market" Special concert programme from 11.00 to 13.00. Creative workshops where we will make fortune buttons, bracelets, cup holders. There will also be family relays (tossing cones, etc.). We will cook soup, smoke bacon and cook sklandrauši without carrots but with speck!

· Saturday, 5 February at 8.00-15.00 "Met Meteni Ventspils"
You can compete in a sledging tournament, snowball tug-of-war, sack-throwing competitions, mole chasing eating master classes and other interesting activities in the open-air area of the museum. There will also be a campfire to warm up, take a breather between activities and bake goodies to take away. Ina Celitāne and Liesma Lagzdiņa, the founders of the storytelling festival "Ziv zup", will reveal how to celebrate ancestral traditions with songs, stories and customs in a welcoming atmosphere. · Monday, 7 February, at 19.00 "Jam with Ventspils Big Band No. 1 - Saxophones"

Calendar of exhibitions

Theatre house Jūras vārti (Karlīnes Street 40, Ventspils):
Exhibition of paintings "It Happens Again" by Alvīne Bautra until 20.02. The compositions of the paintings embody a sense of slow motion, thus pointing to the inevitability of ever-changing viewpoints and eternal change. 
(The exhibition is open on business days from Monday to Friday at 09.00-17.00).   

Ventspils Museum, Livonian Order Castle (Jāņa Street 17, Ventspils):
The Ventspils Museum offers an exhibition "Vasarnīcu iela" (Street of Summer Houses) - a story about buildings, lifestyles, families, people and their fates, which is open to the public in the Castle Exhibition Hall. The exhibition features mostly the objects from the Ventspils Museum collection, costumes from the collections of I. Sarma, photographs from the archives of M. Cara and the Mikutovičs family, and bicycles from the collection of G. Brūna.

Until 06.02. Sarmīte Caune's anniversary exhibition Baltā nakts (White Night), the artist has exhibited twenty paintings in the palace galleries that seem to reflect light.

Until 30.03. The exhibition Cabinets of Curiosities. Passion in Europe in 16th-21st Century created by the French curator Gilles Bonnevialle in collaboration with the Latvian cultural association VIA ARS, Latvian museums, the National Library of Latvia, the Academic and University Libraries of the University of Latvia, the Latvian State Historical Archive tells the history of the formation of collections of natural or artistic objects (the collection contains more than 700 objects).

House of Crafts (Skolas Street 3, Ventspils):
The exhibition Ceļojums zeķēs (Journey in Socks) can be viewed until 11.02. An exciting journey into the world of handicraft. (You can view the exhibitions from Tuesday to Friday from 10.00 to 17.00, on Saturday from 10.00 to 15.00).   

Ventspils Creative Centre (Maiznieku Street 11, Ventspils):
The exhibition of the Tourism Information Centre Ventspils 2021 Photo Contest is open to all interested visitors until 11.02.

Ventspils Main Library (Akmeņu Street 2, Ventspils)

The exhibition "there and here | där orch här" dedicated to the poet Juris Kronbergs (1946- 2020) can be viewed until 06.02. 
The photo exhibition Neighbourland Latvia by Finnish photographer Seppo Hovila and Latvian literature translator Mirja Hovila can be viewed until 13.02. The exhibition shows what has influenced Mirja and Seppo in Latvia during the 31 years they have been visiting Latvia on a regular basis, and various things and events that are common or different between our two nations.
