The 30th Liepāja International Stars Festival - March 4 to 12

Every year in March musicians and listeners come together to get inspired by the Liepāja International Star Festival, and in the year 2022 the Spring Festival in Liepāja will take place for the 30th time.
March 4
The opening concert of the anniversary Festival together with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra on the stage of the Concert Hall "Lielais dzintars" will feature a number of soloists that are well-known both in Latvia and abroad, such as organist Iveta Apkalna, pianist Reinis Zariņš, flautist Dita Krenberga.The concert will feature works by the classics Johann Sebastian Bach, Frank Martin and Paul Hindemith, as well as the premiere of Arturs Maskats' triple concert "Stained Glass of Childhood Churches and Summer Butterflies".

The outstanding violinist Baiba Skride has been living in Germany for twenty-five years now. However, whenever possible, she performs in Latvia, because music is her strongest bond with Latvia.Baiba Skride's name became known all over the world after she won the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels in 2001, which granted her the chance to perform with the most prestigious symphony ensembles: the Berlin Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and many more.At the 30th Liepāja International Star Festival Baiba Skride together with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra will perform Johannes Brahms' Violin Concerto in D major.

Piano music concerts are an essential part of the Liepaja International Star Festival, and in the anniversary year listeners will enjoy a solo concert by the outstanding Russian pianist Alexander Melnikov, where he will perform music by French composers: Preludes by Claude Debussy, "Symphonie Fantastique" by Hector Berlioz in a piano adaption by the legendary Hungarian composer and pianist Ferenc Liszt.Alexander Melnikov has won several competitions and received a number of music awards, including the prestigious "Echo Klassik", "Gramophone" and many more, he has also been nominated for the Grammy Awards.

Founded in 2016, the Albion Quartet brings together four outstanding young string instrumentalists from the United Kingdom, who are quickly gaining success in the international arena. The quartet has performed in a number of prestigious concert halls such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Birmingham Symphony Hall and elsewhere. Albion Quartet musicians own outstanding string instruments made by the famous Italian masters Stradivari and Guarneri.
