For promotion of the quality of tourism service and attraction of more tourists, already since 2002 (for the seventh time) training of guides was organised within a framework of a cycle of seminars, supported by Ventspils National City Council. Last year, in total 54 guides applied for the cycle of seminars, 16 of whom received certificates for the first time, whereas 38 already practising guides refreshed their knowledge.

The last cycle of seminars for guides took place in the autumn of 2021, and the guides took a test at the conclusion of the cycle of seminars. At the end of the cycle of seminars, each participant was awarded a certificate of participation in lectures and a guide's certificate, which will further serve as a recognition sign of Ventspils' guide. 

Within the framework of the training programme, guides had an opportunity to explore the city from various aspects: infrastructure and tourism services development plans of Ventspils, city architecture and history of urban planning, the guides became acquainted with the most notable monuments, including the story of Ventspils International Writers' and Translators' House, the industrial Ventspils - the operation of the Freeport of Ventspils, and protected natural territories. The guides found out, how friendly Ventspils is for people with disability, and also became acquainted with the tourism offer of Ventspils municipality. A major part of the training was dedicated to studying history of the city, including exploration of the Livonian Order Castle through the times, sand-filled streets of Ventspils in the 17th century, stories of Vasarnīcu Street, Hanseatic League and the role of Ventspils in it.
