Waiting for Easter at the Ventspils Museum – workshops and museum education programmes for school and pre-school

Ventspils Museum invites school children and very young children to get to know the Latvian traditions of the Easter, various workshops and thematic literary stories in all its locations – the Livonian Order Castle, the Craft House, the Seaside Open-Air Museum and the Museum of the Writer Herberts Dorbe.
The Bunny School of the Livonian Order Castle offers a creative workshop.
During the lesson at the Bunny School, you can explore the variety of festive decorations. In the oldest traditions, the hare was the sacred animal of the ancient Germanic goddess of spring, Ostara, Ilva Buntika, museum educator, will play the role of the Easter Bunny at the Castle, introducing the possibilities of using modern materials to create the upcoming festive atmosphere at school or at home. You will also have the opportunity to take a look at historical Easter cards during the lesson. Workshop at the Craft House: We are both dyeing the eggs, we are doing it very well
You can colour the drawings of the artist Agnese Rudzīte, woth hidden Easter bunny, speckled Easter eggs, migratory birds, the first snowdrops and other harbingers of spring during the creative workshop of the Ventspils Craft House. The drawings will be used to create badges, which everyone will be able to take with them after the class, so that they can adorn themselves with a beautiful, self-made accessory this Easter. Museum Education Programme Easter Journey at the Seaside Open-Air Museum
The museum education programme Easter Journey introduces schoolchildren to the Latvian traditions of the Easter. Marta Tjarve, museum educator, will join the children on a tour of the Seaside Museum territory. The sights in the museum territory will be the stopping points of the journey, where children will learn about Easter traditions - swinging, solving riddles, searching for eggs and rolling them. Children will have the opportunity not only to learn about the meaning of these traditions, but also to participate in traditional rituals. Each event is based on a belief about why Latvians did it this way and not another way, so children will also learn beliefs and folk songs. The aim of the journey is to increase children's knowledge about traditional Latvian Easter celebrations. Each participant of the session should bring two boiled, dyed Easter eggs (preferably dyed with natural materials). The session is suitable both pre-school and school age groups. Remote programme Aina and her little brother are looking for a chick at the H. Dorbe Museum
Inese Aide, the head of the Dorbe Museum, is offering a lesson on the Zoom platform, which will include a story about the making of the book "Aina and her little brother are looking for a chick" by Herberts Dorbe (1973); the schoolchindrel will be able to see the typewriter on which the manuscript was transcribed and the writer's diary in which entries about the fairy tale were made. An excerpt from the book will be read by the well-known musician, singer and trombonist Intars Busulis. The musician born in Talsi can be counted among the Ventspils musicians at least in the field of musical education, as Intars learned to play the trombone at the Ventspils College of Music.
