The summer solstice will be met in Ugunspļava of Jūrkalne

For the thirteenth time, Ventspils District Municipality invites solstice participants from all over Latvia to come together in Jūrkalne on June 21 at 20:00 to experience the magic of the solstice night together. The folk-rock group "Iļģi" will make music, Rīgas Danču klubs /the Riga Dance Club/ will take part in the event.
On June 21, folklore groups of Ventspils Region will make wreaths, sing songs and light a bonfire in Ugunspļava of Jūrkalne. We will put a fire wheel on the sea, burn a poodle and twirl a fire mill. We will honour the sun, enjoy nature, the sea and mutual goodness.
We will celebrate the holiday until sunrise, because the ancient Latvians believed that the forces of evil multiply in the darkness and the good in the light, so the thread of light must not be interrupted.
The solstice is a time when nature is in a maturity stage and man and nature merge into a single whole. This holiday is a time to learn from our ancestors, feel a sense of belonging to nature, and gain strength and energy for the whole summer and year.
