The run “Piltene 2022” and Latvian 10k road running championship to take place
09.08.2022 - 14:12
On 20 August in Piltene, the Latvian 10k road run and Ventspils District Open Championship in 10k and 5k distances, including in a Nordic Walking 5k distance, are to take place. Children are also expected to participate, starting the run at 2:00 p.m., while adults will have two starts – the 5k run at 3:45 p.m. and the Nordic Walking 10k run at 3:55 p.m.

This is going to be the seventh run in Piltene. The biggest supporters of the event include the Ventspils Municipality and several entrepreneurs and individuals, who will ensure that the participants receive rewards. "This run," as pointed out by the organiser Aigars Matisons, "is the only public running event in Ventspils Municipality, so we really want to involve as many locals as possible. The Latvian Athletics Association has entrusted us to organise the Latvian 10k road running championship. The route will wind its way through the centre of Piltene, with one lap being 5 km with a vertical descent of 5 m. This means that the finish line can be reached very quickly, and it is possible to achieve really good results. We expect there to be around 500 participants on Saturday, 20 August."
The best Latvian athletes are also expected to compete for the Latvian 10k road running championship medals. The organisers will honour not only the winners of the Latvian 10k road running championship (men and women), but also the fastest male and female runners from Ventspils Municipality in both the 10k and 5k run. The 100 fastest runners participating in the 10k run will receive the large medals, while the rest will receive smaller medals, but the 1st to 6th place winners of the 10k run - cash prizes. There will be also a cash prize of EUR 100 for setting a new track record for both men and women. The 1st to 3rd place winners in all age groups will receive trophies provided by the Ventspils Municipality and prizes from sponsors. The names of the winners will be engraved in a special trophy which was received as a gift for the event from the members of the Ventspils Municipality Council in 2016. The participants of the Nordic Walking 5k race - 1st to 3rd place winners in men's and women's groups - will receive trophies provided by the Ventspils Municipality, whereas the 1st to 3rd place winners in the children's run - trophies and prizes from sponsors. After the race, all participants will be treated to sausages and cabbage. At the conclusion of the event, the participants will be able to enter a raffle and win valuable prizes.
The organizers invite the entrepreneurs from Ventspils to come to Piltene and to offer their products to the runners and visitors of the beautiful running festival.
