Festival VENTSPILS GROOVE 2022 15 to 20 August

11.08.2022 - 17:04
To continue its annual tradition, which basically consists in indulging in modern rhythms and jazz music for one week, this summer, the Competence Centre for Vocational Education “Ventspils Music Secondary School” will once again organize the music festival “Ventspils Groove”. The festival will take place from 15 to 20 August.
Festival VENTSPILS GROOVE 2022 15 to 20 August
This year, "Ventspils Groove" will feature hammond organist Leonardo Corradi from Italy, percussionist Marc Michel from France, trumpeter Dominykas Vysniauskas from Lithuania, bass guitarist Niklas Lukassen from Germany, Latvian saxophonist Toms Rudzinskis, Swedish jazz singer Liselotte Ostblom, the US-based Latvian singer Arta Jēkabsone, and Estonian guitarist Jaak Sooaar. The week-long festival will include music masterclasses, jazz sessions, and concerts.

During the masterclasses, students will work with educators/ professional musicians, generating creative ideas and exchanging work and musical experiences, thus expanding their musical and personal development. The masterclasses are organized in two ways: in the first half of the day, participants will work together with educators in their respective specialties, gaining inspiration and knowledge from professionals, and after lunch, students will be divided into ensembles. Under the guidance of two educators, each ensemble will create a programme for the final concert. Collective playing brings the greatest joy and motivates students to further their musical development.

Three jam sessions are scheduled for 15, 17, and 19 August at TEX-MEX restaurant and Winday Coffee, featuring singer Daumants Kalniņš, pianist Kristaps Vanadziņš, graduates, and teachers of the Ventspils Music School, as well as masterclass instructors.

This year's festival will include three concerts. In the Great Hall of the Concert Hall "Latvija" on the 18 August at 7:00 p.m., Atis Andersons jazz trio and Aivars Kalējs will combine jazz and academic music. On Saturday, 20 August at 3:00 p.m., the festival participant ensembles will perform on the rooftop of the Science and Innovation Centre VIZIUM, but at 7:00 p.m. the final concert featuring Leonardo Corradi and other masterclass instructors, Toms Rudzinskis, and Niklas Lukassen with the Ventspils Big Band conducted by Renārs Lācis is to take place. The festival is co-funded by Ventspils City Council and Kurzeme Planning Region.
