Friday evening walk “A Ventiņ' Thing!”

On the evening of 26 August, the locals and city guests are invited to the Friday evening walk “A Ventiņ’ Thing!”. During the walk, we will present our special local dialect, namely, the deep Tamian subdialect, gather the locals from near and far, dance, sing, and play locally originated games, thus encouraging the youth to discover our values and to carry these values with them wherever they go. A thing of the locals!
On the market square, from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., the visitors are welcome to the event 'ANDEL TIERGS PLACE UN DANČ' ('Street markets and dances') that offers a wide range of activities and concerts. They will have the opportunity to take an evening stroll through the market and to taste street food to the music of the vocal ensemble "Ventiņ'", whereas the children will definitely enjoy themselves in creative workshops. The most popular Latvian hits about summer, life, and love in the old and modern times will be performed by the singer Andris Daņiļenko, born and raised in Ugāle, and the former pupil of the Ventspils Music School and music author Valdis Zilvers as part of the concert programme "From Rozenštrauhs to Pauls". The young local talents - the band "6 piparu maisījums", who won the young band competition during the event "A Different Kind of Market" - will also take the stage, and at the conclusion of the evening, the audience will be entertained by DJ Jānis K.
Nearby, in the House of Crafts, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., everyone is welcome to the event 'TEIJĀTERS UN VIET, KUR UZSIST KLAČ' ('Theatre and a place to chat'), during which the visitors will have the opportunity to participate in the contest of words in the local dialect and archaisms, as well as to see the R. Blaumanis' comedy "After our First Meeting" performed by the Ance Amateur Theatre, experiencing the whole range of emotions.
From 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the heart of the old city of Ventspils, namely, the Town Hall Square, will turn into an open-air exhibition and performance hall entitled 'TĀD MĒS I' ('That's us') with musical surprises on the part of the vocal ensemble "Mundus", the teachers of the Ventspils Music School, and the local storytellers who know best 'kā viš bij un kā viš būs' (what and how happened and will happen). The event includes also a 'satikšnes tujāk' (a meeting) with local master craftsmen who 'neknūr pa stūrem, bet dar' (do not sit around and wait but act instead). The visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the symbol of Ventspils - the Cow - and the traditional "Cow Parades" held in 2002 and 2012. These two "Cow Parade" campaigns have contributed to the city image, resulting in an unofficial symbol of the city - the cow, which is not only popular among the tourists and used by entrepreneurs in souvenir designs, but also considered a public art collection on display in the urban environment, which allows the city residents and guests enjoy the works of painters, sculptors, and designers on a daily basis.
The lovers of flowers, who prefer to go on the tour 'PUĶMĪĻ ŠPACIERS A MUZĪĶER' ('Tours for the lovers of flowers accompanied by music') along the street 'Kuldīgas iela' guided by the landscape architect Lilita Sproģe to see the most beautiful flower plantings from the Town Hall Square to the square 'Lielais laukums', are welcome to join one of the tour groups that will gather at 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on the Town Hall Square.
An exciting programme for families with children entitled 'VENCPILS ŠEPTMAŅ TAISIS LUSTS A KNARIŅIEM' ('Activities for local children organised by Ventspils-based entrepreneurs') is to be performed on the square 'Dzirnavu laukums' from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., which will bring together entrepreneurs providing services to families. The visitors will have the opportunity to meet the Yamaha Music School teacher Kristīne Stone, the manager of the studio "Melleņoga" Gita Goldmane, the doula and breastfeeding consultant Sanita Bergmane of "Mīļotava", the EFA consultant Ieva Stare , the PE teacher and gymnastics coach Anita Kivilande, the juggling and art class teacher Alis Portrait of "Delatlivik", and the children party agency "Anniefesta". All that will be complemented by the game of words in the local dialect organised by the H. Dorbe Memorial Museum "Senču putekļi" in collaboration with the Ventspils Children's Library. The Marija Dance Studio led by Marija Keserovska, the dance group "Deguntiņš uz augšu" with Svetlana Grundmane in the lead, and the Elena Vaseva Singing Class are also expected to give performances. In the course of the evening, there will be songs, dances, and various surprises, but at the conclusion - a disco for children together with DJ Keysh.
During the event 'LIŅĶS UZ SKUNSTIGEM RUMPEM' ('Snap a photo') on the square 'Jaunpilsētas laukums', from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., you are welcome to take a walk and discover living statues beside the sculpture "Sun Boats".
Be ready for 'LUSTS UZ VELL PARAUŠEN' ('Let's raise the roof') at TEX-MEX Republic at 6:00 p.m., where you will be able to enjoy delicious meals, refreshing drinks, and dances. The mouth-watering 'paella' will be prepared over an open fire in front of the visitors, which, by the way, will be available for a favourable price. At the Mojito workshop, the visitors will have the opportunity to prepare and enjoy their own cocktails. Those fond of dancing, are welcome to learn and dance salsa together with Karīna Gailiša.
The concert and evening ball 'MUZĪĶERS UN CITĀD TRAČ PAŠ UN KAIMIŅ LUSTEM' ('Musicians and other activities for your own fun and those around you') is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. in the amphitheatre at the Concert Hall "Latvija", which will be the place to be for those fond of music and dancing. Four premium-quality concerts will be performed by the former and current musicians of the Ventspils Big Band - the teachers, students, and graduates of the Ventspils Music School who are currently studying at different schools around the world. Ģirts Celmiņš, on the other hand, will demonstrate jazz music standards and perform his best original compositions, while Krists Daubars will charm the audience with his adaptations of the most iconic music pieces, including Mancini's film music and compositions by Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. The musicians Denisa Dārzniece will perform her best original compositions, but the composer and arranger Kristers Lauriņš - original compositions and adaptations of jazz standards for nonet. At the conclusion of the evening, on the other hand, DJ Slīmests Slaists and DJ Fisha will give a musical performance that will make not only vinyl records spin, but also event visitors.
