Jūrkalne will also participate in the UNESCO week

Each year, the UNESCO National Commission for Latvia declares a UNESCO week.

The cultural space of Suiti listed on the UNESCO World List of Intangible Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding will also be part of this event and organise its activities in the historic Suiti region, in Jūrkalne as well.
This year, the activities will take place in the whole historic region drawing attention to the popularisation of the Suiti dialect and organising the so-called 'trail of Suiti stories' that will be open for visitors throughout the historic region - in Alsunga, Gudenieki and Jūrkalne Parish. The map of the trail is available in the Alsunga House of Crafts, Administration of Gudenieki Parish, and Jūrkalne Library, as well as at: https://www.facebook.com/EKCsuiti and www.suiti.lv.

On October, 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Alsunga Castle and House of Crafts organise an Open Day with free entrance offering a tour around Alsunga and a meeting with ethnographic ensemble 'Suitu sievas' or folklore groups 'Suitu vīri' and 'Suitu Gudenieki' (tours starts at 2 p.m.). During the Open Day, visitors are also welcome to 'The Storm Museum' in Jūrkalne and to the Suiti history & culture exhibition 'Suitu godi' at Basi Community Hall. From October 11 to 29, the Alsunga House of Crafts will hold an exhibition 'Mūs māsas rožotais pūrs' (works by members of folklore art studio 'Kangas' and weaving club 'Kodes').
On October 16, at 1 p.m., during 'The Suiti UNESCO Week 2022', everyone is welcome to the event named as 'Satikšanās'. i.e. Meeting, that will take place in the garden of St. Jāzeps church and in the vicar's house. Taiga Reķe will inaugurate the meeting with a story on gastronomic heritage, then craftsman Guntis Niedoliņš will make a music performance playing his kokle and Ilona Niedoliņa will demonstrate a rosary making process, while Kristīne Vasiļevska will teach how to paint angels and figurines of saints, and, finally, a digital quiz game about the Suiti history will be organised by Baiba Trauberga.
The activities are organised by the association "The Suiti Ethnic Cultural Centre" in cooperation with the Jūrkalne Community Hall, Jūrkalne Library, Alsunga Tourism & Information Centre, Administration of Alsunga and Gudenieki Parish.
