Listen to the ‘Blizzard of Souls’

On Lāčplēsis Day, November 11, at 7 p.m., mixed choir ‘Ventspils’, Ventspils chamber orchestra and instrumental group will perform a concert titled ‘Ieklausies dvēseļu putenī’ (‘Listen to the Blizzard of Souls’) in the theatre house ‘Jūras vārti’. Conductor: Aigars Meri.
The concert will feature solo performers: Annija Putniņa, Toms Kalderauskis, Edvards Grieze, Kate Kokamegi, Vaida Vovere, Eduards Rediko, Patriks Tabaks, Uga Gundars.
After the premiere show of the feature film 'Blizzard of Souls', the concert's creative group asked the film creators to allow them to create a vocal-instrumental instrumentation for a "live performance" for arrangements by Reinis Sējāns, as they were originally created using the unlimited possibilities of electronic music. The permission was received and Andris Sējāns created a suite of Latvian riflemen's songs for big band, string orchestra, choir, and solo performers.

Working on the film 'Blizzard of Souls', its creators carried out extensive research on the First World War to confirm that riflemen's songs were an important part of that time as they not only depict the course of the war of Latvian men, but they have a tremendous power to raise the national self-confidence of soldiers and the entire nation. New musical arrangements for ten Latvian riflemen's songs appeared as a result coming from the collaboration between the film director Dzintars Dreibergs, Māris Mihelsons and Reinis Sējāns.
The concert 'Ieklausies dvēseļu putenī' is organised by "Kurzemes filharmonija". The event is supported by the Local Government of the Ventspils State City.
