A Christmas concert with Liepāja Symphonic Orchestra and Vestards Šimkus to take place in the concert hall ‘Latvija’

On December 17, SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” invites to a Christmas concert in the concert hall ‘Latvija’ in Ventspils. The concert will feature Liepāja Symphonic Orchestra, pianist Vestards Šimkus, and Estonian conductor Mihhail Gerts will be on the rostrum. The art director of the concert is Guntis Kuzma.
It will be the first appearance of Liepāja Symphonic Orchestra on the stage of the concert hall 'Latvija' and also the first time that Mihhail Gerts, an Estonian conductor recognised in Europe, will conduct a full concert program in Latvia. In 2020, Vestards Šimkus presented his non-academic improvisation program in the concert hall 'Latvija', and on December 17 he will, for the first time, perform there his classic repertoire.
The concert program will feature three compositions united with a bright joy of life which permeates each of these compositions. The Petite Suite by Claude Debussy composed originally for two pianists is an exciting and bright composition. It should be noted that, in recent years, this composer's music has become especially close and important to the pianist Vestards Šimkus. The Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, K. 503, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a maturity period opus and it was truly appreciated only in retrospect when it turned out to be one of the highest achievements of Mozart's genius. Serenade No. 1 in D major by Johannes Brahms sometimes sounds like it was composed by Mozart - this soft, flowing music that enchants any listener is so Viennese and classicistic.Mihhail Gerts is hailed by critics as 'a name to remember' thanks to his 'astonishing precision, highly expressive gestures and warmth'. Gerts worked with leading European orchestras, including the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, the BBC Symphony Orchestra (Great Britain), the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the French Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. This season, Gerts is on the rostrum of the Oslo Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and other high-class orchestras and is going to make his Australian debut, and from time to time returns back to perform in his home country.
