Ventspils will welcome the New Year with a concert in the "Lielais laukums" and magnificent fireworks

The city of Ventspils invites Ventspils residents and guests to the Great Square on December 31 to celebrate and welcome the New Year – 2026. The festive mood will be created from 11:30 p.m. by the attractive music group “Laika upe”, which will delight with a program of popular domestic and internationally known songs.
The traditional moment of welcoming the New Year in Ventspils will take place at 00.33, when Ventspils Mayor Jānis Vītoliņš will address the participants of the celebration. At the end of the address, the sky above Ventspils will shine in a magnificent fireworks, which has become an integral part of the city's New Year's Eve tradition.
In Ventspils, New Year's Eve is celebrated according to local time, which is 33 minutes and 44 seconds later than in the rest of Latvia. This time difference was determined by the International Radio Astronomy Center, evaluating the location of meridians in the territory of Latvia. The tradition of welcoming the New Year according to Ventspils time began in 1999, when the Ventspils City Council considered the issue of the astronomical arrival of the year 2000 in Ventspils.
