The opening of the Ventspils summer tourism and cycling season is approaching
20.04.2026 - 15:18
On May 9, the Ventspils summer tourism and cycling season will be opened with a bike ride at the Adventure Park. At 10:15, the first participants of the children's ride will set off on the track - the length of the track is 2.1 km, but at 11:00, the start will be given for the 8.6 km distance.
The motto of this year's bike ride is "VeloSkanis" , which invites you to make the ride filled with various sounds - not only with butterflies, bells, rattles and music players, but also with the sounds and rhythms created by the bikes themselves, the noise caused by the movement and the overall liveliness of the city. Participants are invited to be creative in both sound and visual design, decorating their bikes and choosing summery, bright, noticeable clothing, creating a unified and energetic atmosphere of the ride. During the event, the owners of the most interesting design will be awarded, as well as the largest teams will be highlighted. In turn, participants in the children's ride will receive Adventure Park coupons, which will allow them to try one of the park's attractions for free on the day of the event.
In the finish area, all participants will receive a sticker with the cycling logo, QR code and race number. By scanning the QR codes on their smart devices, they will have the opportunity to receive a digital certificate. In turn, the sticker's race number will give them the opportunity to participate in a lottery, the main prize of which will be a bicycle . After the finish, participants will be able to treat themselves to a power porridge, as well as enjoy a concert program performed by the group "Ballīšu krustēvi" .
This year, the event will be complemented by a special novelty - the Tourism Information Market! Visitors to the opening event of the summer tourism and cycling season will have the opportunity to obtain information about travel opportunities almost throughout Latvia, as well as in Lithuania. In total, the market will feature 13 tents, where Latvian destinations will present themselves - Cēsis, Valmiera, Pierīga (ExitRiga), Dobele, Jelgava, Preiļi, Līvāni, and representatives of Kurzeme, in whose tent information will be obtained about the entire vast Kurzeme - Tukums, Talsi, Kuldīga, Salda, Liepāja and South Kurzeme! In turn, from the neighboring country of Lithuania, cities such as Klaipėda, Kupiškis, Kretinga and Rokiškis will be represented.
Visitors to the Tourism Information Market will be able to learn about beautiful, interesting and worth-seeing places in Latvia and Lithuania, from the elegance of manors and culinary tastings to active recreation in nature and exciting activities for the whole family, gaining inspiration and practical advice for future trips. Also, during the Tourism Information Market, visitors will be able to have an exciting time, as the tourism information centers will have taken care of various entertainment options during the event.
Remember about safety!
The law requires that children under the age of 16 must wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. We also encourage other participants to wear helmets when participating in a bike ride, as well as when riding a bicycle in everyday life, which will protect your head from serious injuries in the event of a fall. No cyclist is immune from their own accidental mistakes. It is better for your helmet to get scratched and cracked when you fall than for you to get injured yourself!
Traffic restrictions!
From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., traffic restrictions and street closures are possible on the bike route, and public transport in the city will be limited, so public transport delays are possible.Let's start preparing and see you on May 9th!
