On Monday, 7 February, at 19:00 o'clock at the Concert Hall “Latvija”, Ventspils Big Band will celebrate the birthday of the band leader Renārs Lācis, performing a special musical programme.

Continuing the extension of operation of the Swedish ferry company Stena Line in the Baltic Sea, on 19 January, the new ferry Stena Baltica makes its first trip from Ventspils to Nynashamn.

On Sunday, 23 January, at 5:00 p.m., the concert programme “Double-Bass and Chamber Music. Czech Landscapes” is to be performed by the double-bass player Oskars Bokanovs and the pianist Rihards Plešanovs in the Concert Hall “Latvija”.

The cycle of tourist guide seminars organized by Ventspils City Council has come to a successful end. This year, a total of 55 tourist guides had applied for the seminar, out of which 17 received their tourist guide certificates for the first time, whereas 38 tourist guides already practising as such had the opportunity to refresh their knowledge.

On 8 and 9 January, in Ventspils, in the Concert Hall “Latvija”, the composition “Timber” by the US composer Michael Gordon is to be performed at the conclusion of the space installation “Into the Thick of It” by the artists Katrīna Neiburga and Andris Eglītis.

Surrounded by an abundance of festive melodies, upon arrival of the New Year, the city centre will light up in thousands of lights. The highlights of this year and musical events held in the city will be shown on the screen on the square Lielais laukums for several hours. At the moment, we are in a situation, when we have to observe restrictions for ensuring health and safety of all of us, but the existing situation allows us to be active in fresh air, so on Friday, 31 December, at the entrance of the Basketball Hall of the Olympic Centre “Ventspils”, the traditional “New Year's Eve Race” will take place.
