On 8 and 9 January, in Ventspils, in the Concert Hall “Latvija”, the composition “Timber” by the US composer Michael Gordon is to be performed at the conclusion of the space installation “Into the Thick of It” by the artists Katrīna Neiburga and Andris Eglītis.

Surrounded by an abundance of festive melodies, upon arrival of the New Year, the city centre will light up in thousands of lights. The highlights of this year and musical events held in the city will be shown on the screen on the square Lielais laukums for several hours. As usual, the New Year will arrive at 00.33.44, Ventspils local time.

At the moment, we are in a situation, when we have to observe restrictions for ensuring health and safety of all of us, but the existing situation allows us to be active in fresh air, so on Friday, 31 December, at the entrance of the Basketball Hall of the Olympic Centre “Ventspils”, the traditional “New Year's Eve Race” will take place.

The Bank of Venti, also known as the project “A Country in a Country” celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Over a time period of ten years, the Bank of Venti has virtually earned 76 million of Venti through the website visitventspils.com, while more than 78 000 people from all over the world have withdrawn 62 million of Venti. In celebration of its anniversary, a wide range of activities are offered, such as insight into the chronicles of Venti, new games, and a contest.

On Wednesday, 29 December, at 7:00 p.m., the Concert Hall “Latvija” offers a New Year’s concert “The New Era” performed by the women’s choir of the Ventspils Culture Centre “Venda”. The outstanding female voice performance will be complemented by the performance of the special guests – the band “Sudden Lights”.

As of Wednesday, 22 December, 3:00 p.m., the beginner slope is available on the snow hill. Reservations of the beginner slope for 22 and 23 December can be made through the application Bookla and through the website www.lembergahute.lv.

As the Christmas draws near, as of the First Advent Sunday, the Christmas decorations are lighting up the city. The Ventspils Tourism Information Centre has prepared a guide of Christmas walking routes “Ventspils Under the Christmas Lights” and invites the locals and city guests to enjoy the festive mood, discovering the decorated Christmas trees during walks and taking ride by the “Christmas Train”.
